Millennium Dome Comes Out on Top
At the list of a casino advisory panel in the U.K. that makes assessments on siting Britain's first super casino, American Philip Anschutz topped the list with his Millennium Dome bid.
The ranking came up amid the controversy surrounding Anschutz and Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott. Prescott has been accused to using undue influence to win the bid on the Dome.
Prescott was reprimanded earlier this week for failing to declare the trip he made to the Colorado estate of Anschutz. He however, denied that he was unduly influenced, and moreover, that he had any hand in deciding on the Dome. He has also been under increased pressure to step down from office.
The venue is one of the eight short-listed locations for the super casino. Glasgow in Scotland came in at second.
The site is in Greenwich, a borough in greater London. The site likewise bumped out Blackpool, a popular coastal area in northwest England.
The judging however, is still in its preliminary stages, and more rounds are yet to come. The study of the casinos will ultimately culminate to a final round of judging by the planners, which includes business leaders and senior planners, before the year's end where they would be making a recommendation to the government.
